World Science Day for Peace and Development was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Auxilium Convent School Bandel. A range of activities was organised by members of the school’s Science Club to mark the occasion, highlighting the role of science in fostering sustainable development.
The celebration was initiated with a solemn prayer service, after which an interactive quiz competition was conducted, followed by science exhibitions and demonstrations. Students presented a variety of innovative projects and models focused on renewable energy, sustainable development, and environmental conservation, capturing the attention of attendees.
The theme for this year, "Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development," was explored through discussions and presentations. A renowned scientist delivered a keynote address on “The Role of Basic Sciences in Shaping Future Technologies,” with a strong emphasis placed on the importance of fundamental research in fostering technological innovation.
The significance of STEM education and scientific curiosity was stressed by the School Principal, who encouraged students to explore scientific careers. Several creative projects were displayed by students, including solar-powered vehicles, water purification systems, and models on waste management, which demonstrated their understanding of sustainable practices and innovative thinking.
A member of the Science Club expressed that much was learned about the influence of science on everyday life, and the opportunity to showcase projects and gain insights from others was described as an enriching experience.
The event was seen as a success, with students inspired to deepen their commitment to STEM education and consider their potential contributions to sustainable development in the future.
