The Delhi government has revealed its focused efforts towards bolstering education and healthcare sectors, as per the latest Economic Survey presented by Finance Minister Atishi. The survey discloses 21.1% of the total expenditure was allocated to education, surpassing both state and central government spending across India. This translates to approximately Rs. 2,13,754 crore dedicated to education in the financial year 2022-23.
Moreover, the survey underscores the government's commitment to public health, with a notable 16.17% of the total scheme expenditure directed towards healthcare. This accounts for approximately Rs. 1,64,935 crore allocated to healthcare initiatives, resulting in improved healthcare infrastructure and better health outcomes for Delhi residents. n the energy sector, the survey indicates a reduction in Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses, from approximately 16% in 2012-13 to 6.42% in 2022-23. Additionally, electricity consumption witnessed a significant increase, with 859 million units consumed over the past year.
Initiatives such as providing free water up to 20 kiloliters to households with metered connections have also been noted, benefiting approximately 24.72 lakh consumers since the scheme's inception.
Transportation infrastructure has seen substantial improvements, with Delhi boasting a total bus fleet of 7582 buses as of January 2024, out of which 1650 are electric. Notably, the city has the third-largest number of electric buses globally, following China and Santiago. Economically, Delhi continues to thrive, with a Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Rs. 10,14,000 crore in 2022-23, projected to reach Rs. 11,07,746 crore in 2023-24, representing a growth of 9.1%. Furthermore, the Per Capita Income of Delhi has increased from Rs. 3,76,217 in 2021-22 to Rs. 4,61,910 in 2023-24, showcasing a substantial 22% growth in two years, as reported by ANI.
The survey also highlights Delhi's prudent fiscal management, with tax collection registering an 18% growth during 2022-23. The city recorded a revenue surplus of Rs. 3,270 crores in 2021-22, which increased to Rs. 14,457 crores in 2022-23.
Overall, the Economic Survey underscores the Delhi government's steadfast commitment to inclusive development, with significant investments in key sectors and responsible fiscal policies driving progress and prosperity for its residents.
