The Jammu and Kashmir Student Association has appealed to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin to intervene in response to allegations that Kashmiri students are being coerced into shaving their beards to gain entry to Chengalpattu Government Medical College in the state. In a letter to the CM, the student body expressed deep concern over the reported incident, stating that it infringes upon the fundamental rights of the students involved and raises significant concerns about inclusivity and respect for diversity in society.

The student association stressed that the right to personal appearance, including the choice to maintain a beard, is a fundamental aspect of individual identity. They argued against any form of discrimination that would compel students to compromise their beliefs in pursuit of education. Urging the Chief Minister to ensure accountability for those responsible, they called for reassurance to affected Kashmiri students that they can pursue their studies without fear of prejudice or harassment.

Stressing the importance of the Chief Minister's intervention, the J-K Students' Association underscored the need for educational institutions to be welcoming and respectful of students from diverse backgrounds, with their rights and freedoms protected. They urged prompt action to uphold principles of justice, equality, and inclusivity in society.

Expressing shock at the incident in a state renowned for its cultural heritage, the students encouraged the Tamil Nadu government to foster an environment of inclusivity and tolerance.
