The Delhi Directorate of Education has issued a directive requiring private schools in the city to submit proposals for fee hikes before the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic session, officials revealed via news agency PTI. According to the directive, which was released on March 27, private unaided schools in Delhi that have been allocated land by government agencies are not permitted to increase fees without obtaining prior sanction from the Directorate of Education.

School administrators have been instructed to submit their proposals through the official website of the Directorate of Education between April 1 and April 15. An official from the Delhi government stated that these instructions are part of the affiliation criteria for private schools and have been reiterated due to the commencement of the new academic session on April 1.

The circular specifies that failure to comply with the directive will result in schools being unable to raise fees until approval is granted by the Directorate of Education. Furthermore, the circular warns that stringent action, in accordance with statutory provisions, will be taken against schools that raise fees without prior approval, based on complaints received by the DoE.

This move by the Delhi Directorate of Education comes amid ongoing discussions and concerns regarding the affordability of education in the city. The requirement for prior approval aims to ensure transparency and accountability in fee adjustments, safeguarding the interests of students and parents. It reflects the government's commitment to maintaining a fair and accessible educational environment in Delhi's private schools.
