Tragic Incident At Lovely Professional University Highlights Mental Health Concerns Among Students

In a distressing turn of events, a young student from Haryana, identified as Mayank, reportedly took his own life by jumping from the 10th floor of a hostel at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Phagwara late last night. Mayank, a resident of Rewari, was a second-semester Computer Science student at LPU.

Despite residing on the third floor of his own hostel, Mayank sought out a different building's tenth floor to carry out this tragic act. Sources indicate that the  student was battling deep depression, although the specific reasons remain undisclosed.

The news of Mayank's death prompted an immediate response from law enforcement, with Senior Superintendent of Police Vatsala Gupta and Superintendent of Police Phagwara Rupinder Kaur Bhatti rushing to the scene upon receiving the report.

Following standard procedure, the body was transported to the local civil hospital for a post-mortem examination. Civil Surgeon Dr. Lehimber Ram supervised a board of doctors, which included Dr. Naresh Kundra, Dr. Ravi Kumar, and Dr. Darshan Badhan, conducting the post-mortem. Subsequently, the body was released to the deceased's family members who had traveled from Rewari in the early hours of the morning.

This unfortunate incident sheds light on the pressing issue of mental health and well-being among students, particularly those navigating the challenges of higher education. The pressures of academic life, combined with personal struggles, can sometimes lead to overwhelming emotional distress.
