Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) announced on Thursday, May 9, that a nursing student from Mizoram studying in Kolkata has been arrested in connection with the trafficking of narcotics from the Netherlands.

The identity of the arrested student has not been disclosed by the NCB, but it is known that she is a resident of Aizawl and is pursuing post-graduation in nursing in Kolkata.

The NCB's arrest of the nursing student is linked to the interception of a parcel from the Netherlands at a post office in Kolkata last month. Forensic examinations confirmed that the parcel contained amphetamine tablets, classified as banned narcotics. The seized consignment is estimated to be worth around rupees three crore, as stated by the NCB.

Officials from the NCB were able to establish the connection of the student from Mizoram with the seized narcotics consignment. Subsequently, she was interrogated and later arrested upon admitting her involvement. She confessed that her entry into the narcotics trafficking world was facilitated by one of her cousins based in New Delhi. The agency officials have extracted several crucial numbers from her mobile phone, which could potentially lead to the main operators of the drug trafficking network.
