Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stirred controversy with her remarks on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," where she criticized campus protestors for their lack of understanding of Middle Eastern history.

Clinton asserted that many young demonstrators "don't know very much at all" about the complexities of the Middle East or global history, including events in their own country.

In particular, Clinton highlighted the lack of knowledge about former Palestinian leader Yasir Arafat and the failed Camp David Summit in 2000. She argued that if Arafat had accepted the agreement proposed by her husband, then-President Bill Clinton, Palestinians would already have their own state. Clinton suggested that misinformation and propaganda, possibly influenced by pro-Hamas agendas on social media and in classrooms, were contributing to the protests.

"Propaganda is not education," Clinton emphasized, urging professors to assist students in critically evaluating information about global events, especially on platforms like TikTok.

However, Clinton's comments sparked backlash on social media, with many criticizing her for underestimating the intelligence of students. Some questioned the extent of her engagement with young people, while others defended the protestors' right to challenge established narratives.

The backlash comes amidst ongoing tensions in the Middle East, with recent escalations between Israel and Hamas resulting in significant casualties. In 2023  October 7, Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, leading to approximately 1,200 Israeli deaths. In response, Israel launched a military offensive against Hamas, resulting in the deaths of at least 34,000 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, which is controlled by Hamas.

Clinton's remarks have reignited debates about the role of education and media literacy in shaping public discourse, particularly in the context of complex geopolitical conflicts.
