The National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) is a competitive examination conducted annually for admission into the 5-year integrated M.Sc. program at the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar. The NEST 2015 exam was a crucial gateway for students aspiring to pursue advanced studies in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics at NISER and the Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (DAE CEBS), Mumbai.

About NISER and CEBS

NISER, established by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, aims to provide high-quality education and research opportunities in basic sciences. Similarly, DAE CEBS, based in Mumbai, offers an excellent academic environment and infrastructure for students pursuing scientific research.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for NEST 2015, candidates had to meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of Class 12 or equivalent in the science stream in 2013 or 2014, or appearing in 2015.
  • At least 60% aggregate marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD candidates).
  • Candidates needed to be born on or after July 15, 1995 (relaxation for reserved categories).

Exam Pattern and Syllabus

NEST 2015 followed a structured pattern with five sections:

  1. General Section – Designed to test analytical ability, comprehension, and basic scientific knowledge.
  2. Subject Sections – Consisting of four subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics.
    • Candidates had to attempt any three subject sections, but all four could be attempted to maximize scores.

The syllabus covered key topics from the Class 11 and 12 curricula of CBSE and other recognized boards.

Application Process and Important Dates

  • Online Application Start: January 5, 2015
  • Last Date to Apply: March 7, 2015
  • Admit Card Release: April 15, 2015
  • Exam Date: May 30, 2015
  • Result Declaration: June 19, 2015

Selection and Admission Process

Admission was granted based on NEST scores and merit ranking. Candidates were required to meet the cut-off scores in individual sections and overall ranking to qualify for admission.
