The AIU National Women Student Parliament was officially opened by Dr Kumbhampati Haribabu, Governor of Odisha at Centurion University.
Organised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) jointly with Centurion University, the event was attended by more than 30 universities and over 200 girl student leaders from all over India.
Prof Sangram Keshari Swain, Convener of AIU, presented the welcome address, marking the beginning of an inspiring event.
Centurion played a key role in creating collaborative platform, according to a press release of the institute.
This was preceded by a speech delivered by Dr Supriya Pattanayak, Vice-Chancellor of Centurion University, who underscored the importance of empowering young women through dialogue and leadership empowering woman is not about protest but about future of woman voice and power.
Equality, empowerment and emancipation are not concepts but facts for every woman in India, we need to recognize too the trail-blazing women who were part of drafting the Indian constitution. In modern-day India, women are running corporations, heading senior governments, spearheading innovation, advocating before the multiple courts of law and transforming social change.". The emergence of women in business, sports, law, policy, making and arts is a proof of the shifting pattern of our nation," added the governor.
The governor ended with the promise to make Odisha a better place by sharing his precious words" "Make your voice transform the future of Nation" and "Students election is helpful in producing better leaders in future".
Piling on the significance of the event, Dr Mamata Rani Agarwal, Additional Secretary of AIU, Former Air Force Pilot, New Delhi spoke an inspiring talk, stressing on the role such platforms play to shape future women leaders and discussed the topic about democracy of women and to speak about young women voice.
It is not only about raising voice but being wise.
Dr GSN Raju, Chancellor of Centurion University, subsequently outlined his vision for advancing gender inclusivity in education and leadership.
Dr Gitanjali Dash, Vice-Chancellor of Berhampur University spoke about that by 2047 the new India will have the complete contribution of woman in all spheres and Dr Amiya Kumar Rath, Vice-Chancellor of Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Odisha, also spoke to the gathering, emphasizing the role of women's participation in policymaking and governance he concludes with there is no change in nation unless the condition of woman is improved.
The occasion was also honored by the presence of Dr Muktikanta Mishra, Centurion University President, and Prof DN Rao, Vice-President, Centurion University, who joined the esteemed panel of dignitaries.
After the speeches, all the dignitaries and members of the jury were awarded and felicitated for their efforts. The Registrar of Centurion University, Dr Anita Patra, pronounced the vote of thanks and thanked the dignitaries, participants, and organisers for the hard work in making the event successful.
The first session ended with the introduction of the team managers. During the afternoon, the event progressed with its initial rounds, where student leaders had engaging discussions and debates on different socio-political topics.
The AIU National Women Student Parliament remains an excellent platform for young women to express their views and make inputs into policy debates.
