Applications are currently open for the extremely competitive One World Media Fellowship 2025, a flagship scheme dedicated to investing in mid-career documentary filmmakers and global south journalists. Dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices and developing balanced international coverage, the fellowship seeks to mainstream diverse voices through film, print, audio, photojournalism, and multimedia.

Since its inception in 2001, the Fellowship has allowed approximately 300 young media practitioners to produce new stories in over 100 countries. Each of the selected fellows is awarded a reporting stipend of £1,000 to £3,000, one-to-one mentoring tailored to their needs, and entry to specialized workshops and networking events with senior industry leaders.

The 2025 Fellowship is becoming stronger, due to additional funding collaborations and more diversified giving. 10 fellows will be selected this year, including special grant winners through collaborations with international media outlets.

Projects submitted should already be in pre-production on strong, often under-reported stories from low- and middle-income countries. Projects should be producible in one year and industry-suited: 10-minute films, 1,500-word writings, or 30-minute audio/multimedia productions.

On top of originality and creativity, proposals will also be evaluated on journalistic merit, relevance to contributors, feasibility, and adherence to ethical reporting standards. The Fellowship especially invites applications from women, LGBTQ+, disabled individuals, and ethnic minorities in accordance with the policy of equity and inclusion.

Applications become available on 26 June 2025 and will be in place until 20 August 2025, with the final cohort of fellows announced in November 2025.

By providing funding, mentoring, and global exposure, One World Media continues to promote authentic voices from the global south and provide them with an increased voice globally.
