New Delhi, December 2, 2024: Union Minister of State for Education, Shri Jayant Chaudhary, recently highlighted the significant steps taken by the Ministry of Education to ensure the safety of children in schools. Addressing a query regarding school security, Chaudhary referred to the directives issued by the Ministry of Education in response to the Supreme Court’s earlier orders. These guidelines, developed by the Department of School Education and Literacy, are aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of students across the country.
The Minister emphasized that these guidelines, which have been circulated to all states and Union Territories, include critical measures to create a secure learning environment for children. They address various aspects of school security, including infrastructure requirements, preventive actions against bullying and abuse, and protocols to safeguard children from external threats. These measures are in line with the government’s ongoing commitment to child protection and their right to a safe and conducive environment for learning.
Shri Chaudhary explained that these guidelines were developed after extensive consultations and are designed to provide a comprehensive framework for school safety. The document covers areas such as the physical security of school buildings, ensuring that premises are free from hazards, and establishing efficient communication channels for reporting any incidents related to student safety. Additionally, schools are encouraged to adopt child-friendly practices, ensuring that children feel safe and supported within school grounds.
In response to concerns about increasing incidents of school violence and student safety, the Ministry has underscored the importance of educating school staff and teachers on safeguarding children. The guidelines also stress the need for regular monitoring and awareness programs to ensure the implementation of these standards effectively.
Shri Chaudhary further pointed out that the education ministry, in collaboration with local authorities, is working to ensure that these guidelines are strictly followed across all educational institutions in the country. He reiterated that the safety of children is a shared responsibility between educational institutions, parents, and local communities.
The Minister concluded by stating that the government will continue to monitor the effectiveness of these measures and take additional steps as necessary to enhance the security and protection of children in schools. The safety of students remains a top priority, and the government is committed to creating an environment where every child can grow, learn, and thrive without fear.
