To reform the evaluation process, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a new two-level examination system for Science and Social Science in Classes 9 and 10. This initiative, set to roll out in the 2024-2025 academic session, aims to create a more balanced and holistic learning environment for students.
The revamped assessment pattern will consist of two components:
Internal Assessment (40 Marks):
Schools will administer this segment, which includes assignments, projects, and periodic tests. This approach is designed to provide continuous evaluation and encourage active engagement in the learning process throughout the academic year.
External Board Exam (60 Marks):
Conducted by CBSE, this component will feature a written examination to assess students’ understanding and application of concepts, preparing them for future academic challenges.
The shift to a dual-assessment structure reflects CBSE’s efforts to reduce the stress traditionally associated with end-of-year board exams. By incorporating internal assessments, the system seeks to offer regular feedback, helping students to identify areas for improvement while fostering consistent academic growth.
