A teacher at a private school in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, has been charged with assaulting a Class X student, resulting in partial hearing loss, police reported on Sunday, May 19.

The incident occurred on May 13 at a school in Piprauli Barhagaon, within the jurisdiction of the Ubhaon police station, during a Math class attended by 14-year-old Prateek.

According to Vipin Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) of Ubhaon police station, Prateek's father, Praveen Kumar Madhukar, filed a complaint stating that his son was physically assaulted by his Math teacher, Raghavendra, after he caught the boy talking to another student during the lesson.

The complaint alleges that Raghavendra repeatedly slapped Prateek near his ear, leading to a burst eardrum and subsequent hearing difficulties in his right ear.

Following the complaint, authorities have registered a case against the accused teacher under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code. The investigation is ongoing, police confirmed.
