Jadavpur University Teachers' Association (JUTA) has strongly advocated for the uninterrupted progression of professor promotions under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS).

According to a report by PTI, JUTA has underscored the crucial nature of ongoing academic assessment, urging the West Bengal Higher Education Department not to impede this essential process.

In a surprising turn of events, Partha Pratim Roy, General Secretary of JUTA, expressed astonishment at the recent state government order to suspend CAS in adherence to the election Model Code of Conduct (MCC). Roy pointed out that despite ongoing elections in several other states, CAS procedures are continuing seamlessly, raising questions about the necessity of halting the process in West Bengal.

Taking proactive measures, JUTA formally addressed a letter to the higher education department on Thursday, May 23, urging authorities to revoke the order to prevent potential disruptions to the university's academic operations. Roy emphasized the association's willingness to cooperate while cautioning against possible non-cooperation if the order remains in effect.

In a display of solidarity, the All Bengal University Teachers' Association (ABUTA) echoed JUTA's stance through a resolution, urging the university executive council to address the matter promptly.

Responding to mounting concerns, a senior official from the higher education department clarified that the order would become invalid after June 4, the day election results are announced, in adherence to the Model Code of Conduct. The official provided reassurance to all teaching and non-teaching staff, guaranteeing that they would receive all entitled benefits under CAS without any adverse impact. This assurance offers a sense of relief to the academic community amid apprehensions about potential disruptions to their career progression.
