Dr. Aviral Mathur, President of the Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) and the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), has been removed from his position, and the RDA of MAMC has been dissolved.

This development follows FORDA's decision to call off a nationwide strike after a meeting with Union Health Minister JP Nadda on August 13.

The strike, which commenced on August 12, was organized in response to the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9.

The tragic incident has highlighted the urgent need for a Central Healthcare Protection Act to safeguard medical professionals. Despite the nationwide strike being halted, protests continue at MAMC, where doctors are dissatisfied with the decision to end the strike. The unrest has led to the dissolution of the existing RDA, with a new body formed to replace it, as per Edex Live reports.

Dr. Karandeep, former General Secretary of the RDA at MAMC, confirmed the dissolution, citing the impending end of the RDA’s term and the continuing protests as reasons for the decision. He stated, "The decision to dissolve the existing body was made as the doctors wanted to continue their protest, and the term of the RDA was ending soon." The formation of a new body indicates ongoing dissatisfaction and continued demands for enhanced safety measures for healthcare professionals.
