Students at The Green School Bangalore (TGSB) in Muthasandra marked Raksha Bandhan with a meaningful gesture to support environmental conservation.

As part of the “Save Trees, Save Bengaluru” campaign, they crafted and tied hand-made rakhis to trees around their school, aiming to raise awareness about the city's rapidly depleting tree cover. The rakhis, made from recycled paper, old fabrics, and other waste materials, featured creative elements like pista shells and pencil shavings.

Grade 6 student Aadhya Urs shared her excitement about the project, highlighting the use of various recycled materials. The students and their faculty and principal adorned more than 100 trees. They honoured local wardens by tying rakhis at the Muthasandra Government Hospital and the Panchayat office, as mentioned in a report by India Education Diary.

Usha Iyer, Founder and Principal of The Green School Bangalore, underscored the school's commitment to environmental stewardship through this unique celebration.

"Our aim is to instill a sense of responsibility towards nature in our students," Iyer explained. The event, supported by the Sampige Seed Ball Foundation, also featured a pledge to protect Bengaluru’s green spaces by distributing 5,000 seeds of guava, papaya, black ebony, tamarind, bamboo, and neem. Parents are helping to promote the initiative in their communities, enhancing efforts to safeguard the city's tree cover.
