Udhayanidhi Stalin credits Periyar for Women's education in Tamil Nadu

In a heartfelt tribute to Tamil Nadu's history of social reform, Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister, credited women's education progress to the state's visionary leader Periyar E.V. Ramasamy.

Speaking at a recent event, Stalin emphasized Periyar’s groundbreaking efforts to empower women through education and equality, which have left a lasting impact on Tamil Nadu’s social landscape.

Periyar, a well-known social reformer, played a crucial role in advocating for women’s education as part of his broader mission for gender equality. Through his Self-Respect Movement, he challenged deep-rooted social injustices and fought for equal rights for women. Udhayanidhi Stalin’s recognition of Periyar’s contributions highlights the continuing influence of these ideas on the state’s policies and initiatives aimed at empowering women.

According to reports in The Hindu, Stalin also reinforced the Tamil Nadu government’s commitment to upholding Periyar’s ideals. He acknowledged that the foundation laid by Periyar continues to inspire efforts to create a society where women have equal educational opportunities and education opportunities. 

Udhayanidhi, also the son of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, has been active in Tamil Nadu politics and represents the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni constituency in the Legislative Assembly. His statements serve as a reminder of how Periyar’s work continues to shape the state's focus on equality and education, inspiring future generations to build a more inclusive society.

The event honoured Periyar’s contribution to women’s empowerment and reaffirmed the state’s ongoing mission to ensure equal opportunities for all, especially in education.
