Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia reaffirmed the state’s commitment to nurturing young athletic talent, stating that Delhi government schools are grooming future Olympians. Speaking at the Zonal Athletic Meet held at a Delhi government school, Sisodia highlighted the significance of sports in education, emphasising the development of infrastructure and the provision of trained coaches to guide students.

The Zonal Athletic Meet saw participation from 15 zones, with over 5,000 students competing in various athletic events. The Delhi government has launched several initiatives aimed at promoting sports in schools, with a key focus on building a robust sports culture. One such initiative is the establishment of sports academies across every zone, designed to provide students with specialized training and access to better facilities. Sisodia also announced that scholarships will be given to talented athletes, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their growth and development in sports.

Sisodia noted that participation in sports has significantly increased since the launch of these initiatives. Improved infrastructure, such as new sports grounds and state-of-the-art equipment, combined with trained coaches, has contributed to the growing interest among students in pursuing athletics. This push for a more comprehensive sports curriculum reflects the government's ambition to produce medal winners at both national and international levels, including the Olympics.

The Deputy Chief Minister’s statement underscores the Delhi government's vision of offering holistic education that goes beyond academics. By investing in sports alongside traditional education, the government aims to identify young talent and foster future athletes who could represent India on the global stage.

According to a Hindustan Times report, Sisodia’s comments also send a clear message to other states, showcasing how government schools can serve as a breeding ground for athletic talent. Through its proactive approach to sports development, the Delhi government is setting an example for the rest of the country by demonstrating the potential of government schools to play a pivotal role in shaping India's sporting future.
