In a significant move towards environmental sustainability and cultural preservation, Bharat Biotech, a prominent vaccine manufacturer, has forged a partnership with the Society for Action and Holistic Engagement (SAHE) to restore and rejuvenate ancient stepwells in Ammapalli, a village in Telangana. According to the Business Standard reports, the partnership, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), outlines Bharat Biotech's support for SAHE in its efforts to preserve traditional water harvesting structures. The initiative focuses on promoting water conservation while enhancing local ecosystems, with an emphasis on engaging and educating local communities about the importance of heritage preservation and sustainable practices.
Dr. Krishna Ella, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Biotech, highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating that the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to giving back to society and preserving India's rich cultural heritage. The project aims not only to restore the stepwells but also to enhance groundwater levels and promote efficient water usage, showcasing India's ancient water management techniques.
