In a significant development, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) has revised the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2025, increasing the maximum number of attempts allowed from two to three within three consecutive years.

This change is expected to alleviate student pressure and provide additional chances for those aspiring to join the prestigious IITs.

According to reports of Live Mint, candidates can now attempt JEE Advanced up to three times over three consecutive years, an increase from the previous two-attempt limit. The criteria for JEE Advanced 2025 have been updated to reflect this change.

The exam will be held in two phases—Phase 1 from January 22–31, 2025, and Phase 2 in April 2025.

Only the top 2,50,000 candidates from JEE Main 2025 will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2025.

Candidates must be born on or after October 1, 2000, with a five-year relaxation for those belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories. The top 2,50,000 scorers in the B.E./B.Tech. paper of JEE Main 2025 will qualify for JEE Advanced.

As per IIT Official Statement, candidates must have appeared for their Class XII board exams in 2023, 2024, or 2025, with compulsory subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Candidates should not have accepted admission to any IIT under the JoSAA Business Rules 2024 or earlier.

This policy change is expected to benefit thousands of IIT-JEE aspirants, providing them with additional chances to secure a seat at India’s top engineering institutions. The increased attempt limit offers students more flexibility and reduces the burden of achieving high scores within a limited timeframe. Candidates are encouraged to stay updated on any additional announcements related to JEE Main 2025 and JEE Advanced 2025.
