Amid the ongoing session of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2024, reports of suspected impersonation, cheating, and malpractice have surfaced from various exam centers across the country.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) released a public notice on April 4, disclosing that on the very first day of the JEE Main April session, they detected nine cases of unfair means and one instance of impersonation. However, students from different regions have expressed concerns, suggesting that the actual number of such incidents might be considerably higher.

Following the conclusion of the second day of the JEE Main 2024 session on April 4, candidates reported numerous cases of impersonation, cheating, and alleged paper leaks. Additionally, there were allegations that candidates bribed invigilators and managed to smuggle cell phones into the exam halls at certain centers, as mentioned in Edex Live report.

Expressing dismay over the situation, Kaul remarked on the mismanagement of an exam of such magnitude, crucial for admission to prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Despite NTA's efforts to curb malpractice, numerous cases have surfaced. According to Kaul, students reported instances where invigilators accepted bribes, permitted candidates to sit together, and even allowed the use of cell phones during exams.

Furthermore, images and screenshots of exam question papers taken within examination halls have circulated on social media platforms. Students allege that those with cell phones shared these images with others taking the exam.

Acknowledging skepticism initially, Kaul emphasized that the authenticity of the screenshots matches the NTA's question paper. Alongside malpractice, students also encountered technical glitches during the exam, raising doubts about the examination's credibility.

In response to the mounting concerns, some candidates have taken to social media platforms, calling on authorities to consider a reexamination to ensure fair opportunities for all students.

The JEE Main's second session commenced on April 4 and is scheduled to conclude on April 12.
