The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), one of India’s premier medical institutions, offers aspiring doctors a unique opportunity to serve the nation while pursuing a medical career. The AFMC MBBS entrance exam serves as the gateway for students who wish to join the esteemed institution and commit to serving in the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) for a minimum of seven years post-graduation.

Established in 1948, AFMC Pune is renowned for its rigorous academic curriculum and focus on discipline and service. It operates under the Ministry of Defence and provides training to medical professionals who later serve in the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Candidates aspiring to join the MBBS program at AFMC must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Educational Qualification: Completion of 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English, securing a minimum of 60% aggregate marks and at least 50% in each subject individually.
  • Age Limit: Applicants must be between 17 and 24 years of age as of December 31 of the year of admission.
  • Nationality: The candidate must be an Indian citizen or subject of Nepal/Bhutan.
  • Admission to AFMC is based on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG), followed by additional selection stages conducted by AFMC. The selection process includes:
  • NEET-UG Qualification: Candidates must qualify NEET-UG with a competitive score to be eligible for the AFMC screening process.
  • Written Test: Shortlisted candidates are required to appear for a written exam covering general awareness, logical reasoning, and English language skills.
  • Interview and Medical Examination: Selected candidates will undergo a rigorous interview and medical fitness assessment to ensure their suitability for military service.
  • Bond and Service Commitment: Upon selection, candidates must sign a bond agreeing to serve in the Armed Forces Medical Services for a mandatory period of seven years after completing their MBBS degree. Failure to fulfill the service commitment results in a financial penalty as specified in the bond agreement.

The application process usually begins in April-May, with NEET-UG scores serving as the primary shortlisting criteria.
