Rekha Gupta, chief minister, on Monday introduced the Viksit Delhi Chief Minister Internship Programme to engage youths in administration through policy work, field tasks, and implementation assignments. Shortlisted candidates will get ₹20,000 as a stipend each month for the three-month internship.

“This is not just an internship but a golden opportunity for the youth to shape Delhi’s future in collaboration with the government. True development is possible only when the younger generation becomes part of the system,” Gupta said in a post on X. “Our government is committed to integrating their ideas into governance and creating a model of participatory development.”

The process of selection would be done via an online application wherein candidates would be tested for leadership qualities, civic consciousness, and administrative knowledge. Out of the applicants, 300 would be shortlisted for a one-day boot camp including interactive sessions, workshops, and an essay round. Out of these 300, 150 would be chosen.

The internship will be organized in three rounds. The first will expose interns to the functioning of the Delhi government and major policy domains. The second will be field exposure across 70 assembly segments of the city to discern local problems and recommend solutions. The last stage will have interns delegated to government departments to prepare policy papers on 10 essential issues. The two best papers will be handed over to the chief minister.

Candidates can enroll at http://viksitdelhiyuva.org or scan the QR code shared.

The office of the chief minister stated that the programme aims to develop "viksit Delhi ambassadors"—young leaders who will take forward the vision of city development on campuses, in communities, and online.

"This visionary project is aimed at familiarizing youth with the issues of governance and giving them solution-developing skills, enhancing democratic engagement in decision-making," Gupta said.

As a part of its initiative to empower the youth and enhance participatory governance, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has launched Viksit Delhi CM's Internship Programme. The program is designed to engage young citizens proactively into the governance, policymaking, and delivery of services in Delhi.

Gupta described the programme as a "covenant between Delhi and its youth" that not only expects them to watch but, in fact, to mold the city's future. The programme will choose 150 interns in an open and transparent process and give them a Rs 20,000 stipend every month. Interns will be working extremely closely with government officials, policymakers, and civil society members on projects that have a direct bearing on citizens' lives.

THREE-PHASE PROGRAMME STRUCTUR

The internship programme will have three phases. In the first phase, the interns will be oriented to policymaking process, organizational structure of the Government of Delhi, and the most pertinent social problems. In the second phase, they will conduct field work in the 70 Assembly constituencies where they will interact with the people to understand grassroot problems and exchange ideas. The third phase includes the transfer of policy papers on ten priority issues and the finest ideas will be taken in person to the Chief Minister.

SELECTION PROCESS AND OBJECTIVES

The process will start with candidates filling up an online application form in four short-answer questions to gauge their knowledge and commitment. Out of them, 300 candidates will receive an invitation for a fast-tracked one-day boot camp. The boot camp will involve learning sessions and evaluation interactions with public leaders and subject matter experts, followed by an essay-writing exercise.

As detailed, "The shortlisted candidates will then attend a one-day high-intensity boot camp. The workshop would comprise learning modules and interactive assessment with public leaders and subject matter experts and essay writing exercise. Shortlisting of 150 interns shall be carried out on the basis of essay performance and attendance at the boot camp."

ALIGNMENT WITH NATIONAL VISION

Chief Minister Gupta pointed out that "This revolutionary program is aligned with the 'Amrit Peedhi' vision of PM Narendra Modi, which focuses on the point that the youth are not just the recipients of the government schemes but co-creators in the new paradigm experience of the country." The program will give rich grassroot experience in urban life in cities like mobility, healthcare, waste management, and digital innovation, making the youth eventually a part of Delhi's growth.

Following the success of the pilot in the Philippines, the Earth Journalism Network (EJN) is launching Earth Shorts 2025, a regional fellowship for social media storytellers and journalists in South and Southeast Asia. The program aims to bridge the gap between environmental reporting and digital storytelling, encouraging the production of compelling, evidence-based stories about issues related to biodiversity.

Applications are welcome for 20 fellowships—10 for online content creators and 10 for media professionals—from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Indonesia, Vietnam, and other regional countries. A US$2,000 grant will be awarded to the fellow to produce at least five short videos on biodiversity for social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook.

The initiative arrives in a fast-changing media world, where news is being consumed on social media by wider audiences, and disinformation on green issues, particularly climate change and biodiversity, continues to spread. Earth Shorts 2025 seeks to mobilize journalists and influencers to produce impactful, fact-checked, and innovative online content to get people on the most urgent environmental issues.

The fellowship will begin in September 2025 and will involve a three-day online workshop training to cover such issues as biodiversity science, storytelling methodology, AI tools, misinformation combat tactics, and audience engagement methodology. Continuing mentorship and peer-learning sessions concluding in a closing event in March 2026 will be offered to chosen fellows.

For eligibility, the creators must have a following of 20,000–200,000 individuals and be producing content on civic or lifestyle problems on a regular basis, and journalists must be reporting on stories on biodiversity and having social media presence in public space on a regular basis. All content must be produced in local languages with English subtitles as an added value.

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to present pitches and supporting materials in English before the selection of programs in August 2025. The chosen works will be published on EJN websites, where producers will be invited to acknowledge EJN support by utilizing the hashtag #EarthShorts.
