Chennai's District Collector has announced a holiday for all schools in the district following a heavy rain alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The precautionary measure aims to ensure the safety of students amid forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the region.  

The IMD has predicted intense rain over the next 24 hours in Chennai and surrounding areas, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. In light of this warning, the District Collector has ordered the closure of all government, government-aided, and private schools in the district until further notice. Parents and students have been advised to stay informed by checking with their respective schools for updates on the holiday schedule.  

In a public advisory, the District Collector has urged residents to avoid venturing out unless absolutely necessary. Social media platforms have been used extensively to communicate the decision and keep parents and students informed.
