Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the ₹8,08,736 crore state budget for 2025–2026 on Friday, emphasizing infrastructure, healthcare, education, and agriculture. Along with encouraging general development across sectors, the budget also aims to accelerate the state's economic growth.
The government has announced plans to build four new expressways, further solidifying UP's goal of becoming a logistical hub. Twenty-two percent of the budget is earmarked for new expressways, road networks, and urban infrastructure projects. In addition, funds have been set aside for the development of smart cities, public transportation, and metro tracks.
The government has laid plans to upgrade the digital infrastructure at schools and colleges. One such highlight initiative is the supply of laptops and mobile phones for the government workforce to raise efficiency and connectivity.
To ensure greater access to higher education by women, the government has initiated a scooter scheme for distribution to meritorious female students to stimulate mobility and empowerment.
The health sector has been given 6% of the overall budget, with major emphasis on enhancing medical infrastructure and offering financial support to COVID-19-affected families. The government intends to increase district hospitals, enhance rural healthcare facilities, and enhance medical research centers.
Realizing the significance of agriculture, 11% of the budget has been allocated to promote natural farming, irrigation schemes, and financial support for farmers. The government is targeting modernization in the sector with technology-based farming and subsidies for improved yield and sustainability.
In a futuristic step, the budget announces the creation of an "Artificial Intelligence City" to make UP a pioneer in AI-led innovation. Moreover, a Technology Research Translation Park in Cybersecurity has been planned to strengthen the IT sector of the state.
