In response to heavy rains and resultant waterlogging, educational institutions across several districts in Kerala will remain closed today. This precautionary measure affects schools and colleges in Kottayam, Alappuzha, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki districts, aiming to ensure the safety of students and staff amidst the adverse weather conditions.

The district administration of Kottayam has declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including schools and colleges. Similarly, Alappuzha district has announced a holiday for schools and colleges in Kuttanad, Chengannur, Cherthala, and Ambalappuzha. This move anticipates potential risks from continuous heavy rainfall, leading to significant waterlogging in these areas.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), isolated heavy rains coupled with strong winds are expected to persist in these districts. The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has also issued warnings of high waves and rough sea conditions along the coasts of Kannur and Kasaragod districts. These warnings are part of broader efforts to alert the public and relevant authorities to the heightened risks associated with the current weather patterns.

District administrations' decision to close educational institutions is a proactive step to mitigate risks and ensure the well-being of students, teachers, and staff. Waterlogged roads and potential flooding pose significant hazards, making travel and daily operations in educational institutions particularly dangerous during such weather events. By declaring holidays, the administration aims to prevent any untoward incidents that could arise from the severe weather conditions.

Authorities closely monitor the situation, with continuous updates expected as weather patterns evolve. Residents are urged to stay informed through official channels and adhere to safety advisories issued by local authorities. This includes avoiding travel in affected areas unless vital and taking precautions to protect themselves from the potential impacts of heavy rain, strong winds, and rough seas.

The IMD and INCOIS will continue to provide weather updates and warnings, ensuring that the public and authorities are well-informed to make timely decisions. Meanwhile, district administrations are on high alert and prepared to implement additional measures to safeguard the community.

Kerala's residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and prioritize safety as the state navigates through this challenging weather phase. Further updates will be provided as necessary, reflecting the ongoing commitment to public safety and effective crisis management.
