Bihar Police foiled a brazen attempt at cheating in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2024 with the arrest of 12 individuals on Sunday. These individuals, including two women, were apprehended at various exam centres in Darbhanga district for allegedly impersonating real candidates.
Darbhanga's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jagunath Reddy revealed details of the operation. He informed reporters that nine arrests were made at exam centres under the jurisdiction of Laheriasarai police station. Two more impersonators were caught at a centre under Sadar police station, while the remaining one was apprehended at a Bahadurpur police station exam venue.
The authorities were tipped off about the impersonation ring due to irregularities detected during mandatory biometric fingerprint scans at the exam centres. Invigilators and exam administrators acted swiftly, filing complaints that led to the arrests. Police have lodged cases against the imposters and are questioning them to gather more information.
A crucial aspect of the investigation is identifying the arrested individuals and determining if they are part of a more extensive, organized cheating network operating across state lines. The CTET, conducted annually nationally, is a critical exam for aspiring teachers seeking government jobs. This incident highlights a potential security risk in the exam's current protocols, and stricter measures will likely be implemented by authorities in the future to ensure the integrity of the testing process.
