The Himachal Pradesh government has launched an initiative encouraging public degree and Sanskrit colleges to adopt nearby government schools. This program aims to leverage the infrastructure and expertise of colleges to bolster educational opportunities in local schools, ultimately enriching the learning environment for students.
Amarjit Sharma, the Director of Higher Education, announced that each public degree and Sanskrit college must adopt five to six nearby government schools. This collaboration seeks to improve access to education by providing essential support in human resources and facilities. The initiative hopes to create a more cohesive educational ecosystem across the state by fostering a closer relationship between higher education institutions and government schools.
The responsibilities of the colleges extend beyond just infrastructural support. College faculty are encouraged to engage in various activities such as offering career counselling sessions, sharing valuable academic knowledge, and raising awareness about pressing social issues like drug abuse and women’s rights. Sharma underscored the importance of this initiative, stating that college staff will not only guide students academically but also inspire them to contribute meaningfully to society and participate in nation-building efforts.
Moreover, college personnel will be crucial in helping students understand national assessments like the National Achievement Survey (NAS) and PARAKH, which evaluate student performance across schools. The initiative aims to instil discipline and life skills among students, preparing them for the challenges.
Several colleges have already begun implementing this program, demonstrating a solid commitment to enhancing educational connections within the community.
