The Odisha government is gearing up to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to roll out the PM SHRI Schools scheme. This agreement is expected to be formalized before the academic year 2024-25 kicks off.
The Ministry of Education, in an official statement released on X, lauded Odisha's decision to collaborate with the central government on implementing the PM SHRI Scheme. It hailed the move as a solid pathway to both entities' dedication to fortifying school education and ensuring the overall development of students in the state.
Aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), the PM SHRI scheme aims to establish over 14,500 model schools across India. These schools fall under the umbrella of the PM SHRI School initiative and will be set up nationwide, including those managed by Central Government, State/UT Governments, local bodies, KVS, and NVS.
The primary goal of these model schools is to create an inclusive learning environment that values and supports every student, fostering a culture of active citizenship, as outlined in the NEP 2020.
With an estimated direct impact on more than 20 lakh students, the PM SHRI scheme seeks to uplift the quality of school education and drive policy formulation and implementation. Over the course of five years, spanning from 2022-23 to 2026-27, the initiative aims not only to benefit immediate recipients but also to serve as a blueprint for enhancing educational standards nationwide.
