Amidst scorching temperatures gripping Tripura in a relentless heatwave, the government has taken decisive action to safeguard the well-being of its residents, particularly the vulnerable schoolchildren. Officials announced on Wednesday that all schools across the state will be closed from April 24 to 27, in response to soaring mercury levels.

According to the latest bulletin from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Tripura witnessed temperatures surging to a sweltering 37 degrees Celsius. This reading, significantly exceeding the normal level by approximately 3 degrees Celsius, signals the severity of the heatwave. Forecasts indicate that the mercury may climb even higher, reaching a scorching 39 degrees Celsius by the week's end, exacerbating the already intense conditions. N C Sharma, Additional Secretary in the Education (School) Department, affirmed the government's proactive stance, stating, that government, government-aided, and private schools – will remain closed from April 24 to 27. This measure aims to ensure the safety and well-being of students and school staff amidst the extreme weather conditions.

Recognizing the heatwave as a significant threat, another official emphasized the gravity of the situation, declaring it a state-specific disaster.

District-level disaster management authorities have been directed to conduct awareness campaigns to educate the public about the risks associated with the heatwave. Emergency centers and quick response teams are being mobilized to provide assistance, while efforts are underway to ensure uninterrupted power supply across all areas, essential for combating the adverse effects of the scorching weather.

Further reinforcing the precautionary measures, the Revenue department issued an advisory urging residents to refrain from outdoor activities, especially during the peak hours of solar intensity from 10 am to 3 pm. These measures aim to mitigate the health risks posed by the blistering temperatures and ensure the well-being of Tripura's populace during this challenging period.
