Two professors at a state university in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, faced suspension following allegations of malpractice in exam evaluations. Divyanshu Singh, a former student, raised concerns via an RTI filed on August 3 last year. Singh accused Professors Vinay Verma and Ashish Gupta of accepting bribes to pass students, supported by evidence submitted to the state Governor.
An investigation ensued after Singh's formal complaint and affidavit were received by Raj Bhavan on December 21, 2023. The university formed an inquiry committee, which revealed irregularities during external evaluation, where students scoring zero or four marks were inexplicably passed.
Vice-Chancellor Vandana Singh confirmed the recommendation to dismiss the professors involved. Notably, discrepancies emerged during re-evaluation of special bank copies, prompting further scrutiny.
Professor Verma, previously accused in exam-related incidents, now faces disciplinary action alongside Professor Gupta. Verma's history includes allegations of involvement in an exam misconduct incident, resulting in his removal from administrative duties.
The university administration is poised to forward findings to Raj Bhavan for necessary action, signalling a stance against academic dishonesty and ensuring integrity in evaluations.
