Transform Rural India (TRI) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay have announced a new partnership to promote technological advancements tailored for the rural populace of Jharkhand.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was finalized on August 7, 2024, during Ranchi's fourth edition of the India Rural Colloquy (IRC).
The IRC, which spans from August 1-8, is a series of events to discuss and implement rural development strategies. The MoU between TRI and IIT Bombay's Rural Technology Action Group (RTAG) is set to accelerate progress in rural Jharkhand, particularly in Jonha GP, Angara Block.
Jharkhand's Minister of Transport and Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) Development, Deepak Birua, highlighted the significance of the MoU and the Birsa Harit Fund, introduced under the Birsa Harit Gram Yojana. He expressed that these initiatives would serve as a pioneering example of innovation and substantially enhance the economic and social status of the state's farmers, as reported by Edex Live.
The Birsa Harit Fund is designed to provide Rs 500 crore in financial assistance to one lakh farmers over 20 years. Ajay Nath Jha, Tribal Welfare Commissioner (TWC), underscored the need for a non-governmental entity to offer guidance on employment and educational opportunities for Adivasi youth, emphasizing the importance of understanding and addressing community needs.
This collaboration aims to set a new benchmark for rural development efforts, showcasing a model for future projects.
