Physics Wallah’s Prateek Maheshwari makes a plea to reduce the GST slab from 18% to 5%. The FM Nirmala Sitharaman presented the interim budget 2024 on 1st February, Thursday.

Prateek Maheshwari, the co-founder of Physics Wallah, issued an emotional plea to the government, urging a revision of the GST slab and an augmentation of the education sector's budget on Thursday in an interview. Maheshwari emphasizes the critical need for these measures to establish a robust foundation for the country's children, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

In his appeal, Maheshwari calls explicitly for reducing the GST slab from 18% to 5% on educational products and services. He believes this will contribute significantly to making education more accessible and affordable. In a rapidly evolving world where our approach to teaching is transforming, Maheshwari underscores the necessity for collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors to ensure widespread access to affordable, quality education.

By alleviating the financial burden on parents through a reduction in GST on educational services, Maheshwari argues, the government can actively promote affordability and inclusivity in the education sector. Additionally, he advocates for a collective focus on enhancing youth skills to bridge employability gaps, a move he deems imperative for the sustained growth of the Indian economy. Maheshwari's plea underscores the importance of policy changes in fostering a conducive environment for educational development and economic progress.

This plea came before the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the interim budget for 2024. In an interview with Mint, Prateek Maheshwari spoke about his expectations from the interim budget 2024.

Nirmala Sitharaman presented the interim budget 2024 ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. With the current government’s term coming, the full budget shall be presented in July for the forthcoming fiscal post new government’s formation.
