The Himachal Pradesh government will enforce a dress code for teachers in state-run CBSE schools from October 1, 2026, as a part of a larger initiative to bring greater uniformity and discipline to the institutions.

While presiding over a review meeting with education department officials, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu instructed authorities to finalise the teachers' dress code and uniforms for students. The Chief Minister also tasked officials with formulating a separate colour scheme for school buildings to give state-run CBSE schools a distinct identity.

The Chief Minister directed the department to finalise a common logo for the institutions, as a part of the measures to create a uniform identity for all government-run CBSE schools and ensure discipline in the system to enable a proper learning environment.

Student attendance will also undergo a major change. Under the new system, attendance of students will be recorded three times a day, with an emphasis on punctuality to ensure that students are present in all classes.

During the meeting, Sukhu reiterated the government's focus on providing quality and affordable education in the rural areas. He said that adequate staffing would be essential for ensuring uninterrupted education for students.

Accordingly, officials were instructed to ensure that vacancies are filled up in time whenever they arise. In this regard, the government has appointed teachers in the institutions, and the department has been asked to address future recruitment requirements to ensure that schools have a sufficient staff of teachers.

Officials were directed to make all necessary arrangements for ensuring smooth implementation of the new directives. This includes finalising the teacher dress code and student uniforms, colour scheme for buildings and a common logo before the directives are enforced.

The proposed changes reflect the state government's efforts to strengthen the functioning and identity of CBSE-affiliated schools, especially in rural areas. Along with infrastructure and staffing, the administration is laying emphasis on discipline and uniformity within schools.

With the teachers' dress code proposed to come into force on October 1, 2026, the education department is expected to prepare the necessary arrangements before the deadline. The new attendance system and common visual identity are also expected to become a part of the larger framework for state-run CBSE schools in Himachal Pradesh.
