10-Year-Old Delhi Shooter Nyra Sharma Becomes Youngest Indian to Qualify for National Shooting Championship 

At 10 years and three months, Delhi shooter Nyra Sharma has already reached a milestone that many athletes spend years working towards. Nyra has qualified for the National Shooting Championship in the 10m air rifle event after scoring 363 out of 400 at the recently concluded All India Inter School Shooting Championship in Bhopal. She is now being reported as the youngest Indian to qualify for the National Championship.

What makes the achievement stand out is not only Nyra’s age, but how quickly she has found her place in competitive shooting. She began competing only a few months ago, making her debut at the Delhi State Championship in June before taking part in the India Open in Dehradun in July. The Bhopal championship was her third competition, and the 363-point score was enough to take her to the national stage.

From her first competitions to the national stage

Nyra trains at the TOPGUN Shooting Academy in Delhi, where she has been building her skills in the 10m air rifle event. Her progression has been remarkably quick: within three competitions, she has moved from entering the competitive circuit to earning a place at the National Championship.

For Nyra, the qualification is therefore more than another competition on the calendar. It is an early indication of what the next few years of her sporting journey could look like. The National Championship will bring a different level of competition and give the young shooter an opportunity to test herself against athletes from across the country.

A young shooter with a national opportunity

Nyra’s achievement also offers a glimpse of how early sporting journeys can begin. At an age when most children are only beginning to discover the activities they enjoy, she has already experienced competition at the state and national qualifying levels.

She will now turn her attention to the National Shooting Championship, scheduled to be held later this year. For a 10-year-old who entered competitive shooting only months ago, reaching the Nationals is a significant first chapter. The bigger story, perhaps, is what comes next: the opportunity to learn, compete and grow on a much larger stage.
