One of the Gujarat government's primary schools has introduced a new innovative initiative called the 'Year of Questions' to encourage students to be critical minds. The move, initiated at the Shri Chandap English Primary School in the Sabarkantha district, is a continuation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 that places the highest priority on enhancing analytical skills in education.

Developing Inquiry

Earlier this year, the 'Year of Questions' initiative sought to get kids curious and have them ask questions on their own. The initiative encourages children to think first before responding and don't merely respond to questions posed by teachers. Assistant teacher Kamlesh Kumar Patel said, "No question is too small or too big. It is a remarkable achievement for us that no child in our school feels apprehensive about asking questions anymore."

They can also pose their questions orally or anonymously through a question box, promoting open interaction between teachers and students. Patel noted that through this approach, students' confidence and participation have risen significantly in class.

Positive Outcomes for Students

The project has brought about remarkable improvements in students' speaking abilities and confidence. Dharmik Nareshbhai, a school student, stated, "It's very useful when we become older, and this project is wonderful." His fellow student, Laksh Maheshwari, was thrilled on making questions and stated, "When I ask questions, I am encouraged to progress."

Parents have also observed positive changes in their wards, including enhanced logical thinking and an open mindset to discuss matters at home. Rajesh Kumar Maheshwari, a parent, explained, "Teachers respond to the questions raised by children, which satisfies them."

Building a New Culture of Learning

With this educational program, kids are growing more curious and critical thinkers. Not only is the program building up critical thinking skills, but it is encouraging students to conduct research and group discussion. As such, the 'Year of Questions' is providing a platform for a revolutionary education experience in the Gujarat government schools, playing a big role in helping the students develop all around.
