The Parul University has yet again proved its superiority, but this time by setting a milestone in the wound healing research with a highly appreciated project, which revolves around investigating Panchvalkal-enriched bioengineered dressings. This innovative research will develop more effective and natural wound care solutions based on liquid bandage, hydrogel, tulle dressing, and nanofiber scaffold technologies through a 29,88,570 Grant by Gujarat State Biotechnology Mission (GSBTM).
Dr. Anitha H. will lead the research, with co-investigators being Dr. Anjali Gambhava, Dr. Maitri Sachinwala and Dr. Bijal Prajapati. The team aims at developing the combination of natural Ayurvedic formulations with the latest bioengineering to improve healing and recovery of the patients. The basic part of this bioengineered method is a traditional Ayurvedic poly-herbal formulation (Panchvalkal) which has wound healing and antimicrobial effects.
The project examines recent dressing technologies with additions of Panchvalkal extracts, and it seeks to utilize its cleaning, soothing, and infection-controlling properties in novel delivery platforms such as nanofiber scaffolds and hydrogels. This might be revolutionary in the area of wound care, with therapeutic efficacy being broader and contributing to quicker tissue regeneration.
The GSBTM funding is an appreciation of the potential of the project in filling the traditional wisdom gap with modern biomedical engineering, in line with the world trend of focusing more on natural but medically proven curative intervention methods.
