The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) has launched its Short-Term Internship Program for the year 2026. This program allows students and recent graduates from around the world to be able to participate in real-world projects with a vast number of different fields of interest including the following: science, engineering, administration, etc. There will be various support and guidance available through our experienced personnel while they are at CERN; they will also be able to contribute to the overall mission of CERN, which is to foster scientific advancement and technology innovation.
All internships will take place at the CERN facility in Geneva, Switzerland; in addition to Geneva, there will be multiple positions available for interns in Applied Physics, Experimental Physics, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Data Science, IT, Software Development, Health & Safety, Finance, HR, Legal Affairs and International Relations. The main goal of the Short-Term Internship Program is to allow interns to better understand how their education can be applied in the workplace setting and to help them get ready for their future employment opportunities.
WHO CAN APPLY
Currently, enroled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary, technical, administrative, or engineering programme.
National of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State.
Good knowledge of English or French.
Students must remain enroled as full-time students during the internship.
Demonstrated curiosity, precision, proactive learning attitude, and teamwork skills.
ROLE OF INTERNS
Support experienced professionals in daily tasks and ongoing projects.
Apply new tools or methods relevant to their field of study.
Contribute to small-scale projects under supervision.
Collaborate with teams from diverse backgrounds and share ideas.
Gain exposure to an international workplace that connects science, technology, and innovation.
DURATION AND ALLOWANCE
Contract duration ranges from 1 to 6 months.
Interns receive a monthly allowance of 1,587 Swiss Francs (1.8 lakh).
Paid leave is provided for contracts of 4 months or longer
