CBSE has rolled out an important transparency initiative for Class 12 students allowing eligible students to physically inspect their evaluated answer sheets at CBSE Regional Offices in specific cases. The move comes amid concerns raised by students regarding the board's new On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.
The new measure will give students who had applied for verification of issues observed/re-evaluation of their answer books a chance to personally check their answer books at the relevant CBSE regional office in case of receiving a “no change” answer. The schedule of inspections will be detailed in the near future, the board said.
The change is seen as one of the most significant transparency measures that the CBSE has taken in recent years. So far students who have not had their marks adjusted after verification had few options to get an understanding of how their answer sheets were marked. They will personally look at their evaluated answer books and raise any concerns they may have about the marking.
The decision follows the general complaints about implementation of the OSM system, students have complained that scans are blurred, mismatches of the answer sheets and discrepancy between the answers and the marks. Some technical difficulties have been recognised by CBSE and measures have been taken to make the post-result procedure more transparent.
The new policy is likely to give students and parents more accountability in the assessment system and restore confidence in the board examination evaluation process, education experts said. This is CBSE's way of making its one of the largest examination systems in India fair and to build more trust in it.
