Demonstrating that determination and perseverance can overcome financial constraints, Shri Kantha S N, a student of Government PU College, Dasarahalli, has secured admission to Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing Kancheepuram after preparing for the JEE Main examination entirely through self-study.

Without enrolling in expensive coaching classes, Shri Kantha relied on NCERT textbooks, online learning resources from PhysicsWallah, and the guidance of his school teachers to achieve an All India Rank of 1,975 in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.

Journey from Government Schools to IIITDM

Shri Kantha is the son of Jayashree and Shekharappa, who work as daily-wage labourers in a garment factory in Peenya, Bengaluru.

His educational journey began in government schools in Raichur before he joined Morarji Desai Residential School, Sindhanur for his secondary education. He later enrolled at Government PU College, Dasarahalli, where he pursued his pre-university studies while preparing for one of India's most competitive engineering entrance examinations.

Self-Study and Determination

Unable to afford professional coaching, Shri Kantha designed his own preparation strategy.

He studied using NCERT books, supplemented his learning with PhysicsWallah study materials, and regularly sought clarification from his teachers whenever he encountered difficult concepts.

According to Shri Kantha, he would spend long hours studying after school, often continuing his preparation until midnight.

His disciplined approach and consistent effort enabled him to secure a seat at IIITDM Kancheepuram, a premier institute known for engineering, design, and manufacturing education.

Inspired by Personal Struggles

Reflecting on his achievement, Shri Kantha said his primary motivation was to build a secure future for himself and his family.

Having witnessed the challenges faced by students from economically weaker backgrounds, he expressed a desire to support financially disadvantaged learners in the future.

He said his own experiences inspired him to work hard and pursue higher education so that he could one day help others overcome similar obstacles.

Teachers Applaud His Dedication

Faculty members at Government PU College described Shri Kantha as one of the most committed students in his class.

His chemistry teacher, Vijayamma KC, recalled that he was among a small group of students who regularly stayed back after school to attend additional academic sessions. She noted that his genuine curiosity, discipline, and willingness to learn distinguished him throughout his preparation.

Former Karnataka School Education Minister S. Suresh Kumar visited Shri Kantha's home in Peenya to congratulate him on his achievement and acknowledge his inspiring journey.
