The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has invited applications for the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship (GRI) 2027, offering Indian undergraduate students an opportunity to undertake a fully funded 12-week research internship at leading universities in Canada.
Under the programme, 300 students every year from engineering, management, pharmacy, and architecture disciplines will be selected to participate in research projects at Canadian universities. The initiative will run for three years beginning in 2027, with internships scheduled between May and October each year.
The AICTE-Mitacs Globalink Research Internship aims to strengthen international academic collaboration while providing Indian students with global research exposure, advanced laboratory experience, and opportunities to work alongside renowned researchers.
Applications Open; Deadline is September 16
The application process for the 2027 internship cycle has begun, and eligible students can submit their applications until September 16.
According to AICTE Chairman Prof. Yogesh Singh, applicants must fulfil the following eligibility criteria:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Be enrolled in a recognized undergraduate programme in engineering, management, pharmacy, or architecture.
- Demonstrate proficiency in English or French, as research and academic activities in Canada will be conducted in one of these languages.
Students meeting these requirements can apply for the competitive programme, which covers the cost of the international research internship.
Strengthening India-Canada Academic Collaboration
The expanded internship programme follows a bilateral agreement signed between India and Canada during the Canadian Prime Minister's visit to India in March. The agreement focuses on enhancing cooperation in education, research collaboration, and talent mobility.
