Jharkhand Student Protest: Thousands March Towards Vidhan Sabha Over JPSC, JSSC Exam Irregularities

Jharkhand Protest has intensified. Thousands of students and job aspirants marched towards the Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha in Ranchi on Monday against alleged irregularities in recruitment exams conducted by Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).

The protesters, carrying tricolours and placards, called for cancellation of the controversial 14th JPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination and an independent investigation into the alleged irregularities in the recruitment process.

Students Demand CBI Probe

The protesters have demanded an investigation by the CBI or a committee headed by a retired judge into the alleged recruitment irregularities.

The protest follows over two weeks of demonstrations at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium and several rounds of talks with the government. Student leaders claim that assurances have been insufficient and that action is needed on allegations of paper leaks and examination irregularities.

Heavy Security Deployed in Ranchi

An estimated 1,500 security forces were deployed around Ranchi in advance of the march. Barricades, including barbed-wire barriers, were set up and prohibitory orders were issued in the vicinity of the Assembly.

Protestors broke or breached barricades at certain locations and proceeded towards the Vidhan Sabha. But as of Monday afternoon, there were no reports of widespread violence.

Student leaders had repeatedly asked for the demonstration to be peaceful and constitutional. The protest has now brought JPSC and JSSC exam transparency, government recruitment and the demands of thousands of job aspirants in Jharkhand under renewed focus.
