The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has extended the admission deadline for the 2026-27 academic session, allowing AICTE-approved technical institutions to fill notified vacant seats until September 14, 2026.

The revised schedule covers eligible admissions to technical programmes, including institutions offering Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and Post Graduate Certificate in Management (PGCM) programmes.

The updated academic calendar was issued through an AICTE circular dated August 13, 2026, following the Supreme Court's order in MA 2380/2026 dated August 12, 2026.

AICTE Admission 2026: September 14 Deadline for Vacant Seats

According to the revised academic calendar, eligible candidates can be admitted against notified vacant seats in AICTE-approved institutions until September 14, 2026.

The same deadline applies to lateral entry admissions, allowing eligible students to enter directly into the second year of applicable programmes.

The extension could provide an additional opportunity for students who did not secure seats during earlier counselling rounds or are still looking for available seats in engineering, management and other AICTE-approved technical programmes.

AICTE 2026-27 Academic Calendar: Important Dates

Admission activity Revised date
First-year classes commence August 17, 2026
Admission against vacant seats September 14, 2026
Lateral entry admission September 14, 2026
Last date for seat cancellation with full fee refund July 31, 2026

Students should note that the July 31 deadline for cancellation with a full fee refund has already passed.

What Students Should Do Before Applying

Candidates interested in securing a vacant seat should first check the current vacancy status of the concerned AICTE-approved institution.

Students should then follow the institution's prescribed admission process and verify eligibility, documents, fees and any additional requirements before completing admission.

Since vacancies and admission procedures can differ between institutions and programmes, candidates should rely on information issued by the concerned college or institution before taking admission.

AICTE Extends Admission Window for 2026-27

The revised schedule gives eligible students additional time to explore available seats after the conclusion of earlier admission and counselling processes.

With September 14, 2026 now serving as the deadline for admissions against notified vacant seats and eligible lateral entry admissions, students seeking opportunities in AICTE-approved engineering, management and other technical institutions should check vacancies and complete the required admission formalities within the extended timeline.
