When will CEED 2027 registration begin?
IIT Bombay has not yet announced the exact opening date for the CEED 2027 application form. The official website currently states that detailed information about the examination will be released by October 1, 2026.
It is advised that candidates are cautious about third-party websites publishing specific October registration dates as confirmed information. The CEED 2026 registration process began on October 1, 2025, but that does not mean the CEED 2027 schedule will follow the same date.
Once IIT Bombay releases the 2027 information brochure, it is expected to provide the complete application schedule, fee details, eligibility requirements, examination cities and other instructions.

What is CEED and who conducts the exam?
The Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) is conducted by IIT Bombay. CEED-qualified candidates can apply for M.Des and PhD programmes in design at participating institutes, subject to the admission requirements of the individual institution.
An important point for aspirants is that qualifying in CEED does not guarantee admission. After qualifying, candidates must apply to the respective institutes and meet any additional requirements, which may include tests or interviews.
What is the CEED 2027 exam pattern?
The CEED 2027 examination pattern has not yet been officially released. However, the latest available CEED 2026 pattern consisted of two parts: Part A and Part B. Candidates were required to attempt both.
In CEED 2026, Part A consisted of objective questions in Numerical Answer Type (NAT), Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) and Multiple Select Question (MSQ) formats. It assessed areas including visual and spatial ability, environmental and social awareness, analytical and logical reasoning, language, observation and design sensitivity.
Part B consisted of five questions designed to assess design, drawing and writing skills. The questions were displayed on a computer, while candidates wrote their answers in an answer booklet at the examination centre.
Students should use this as a reference for preparation, not as the confirmed CEED 2027 pattern, until IIT Bombay publishes the new brochure:

What is the CEED 2027 eligibility criteria?
The official CEED 2027 eligibility criteria are awaited. Based on the latest published CEED 2026 rules, candidates need to have completed a degree, diploma or postgraduate degree programme of at least three years after 10+2, or be appearing for the final examination of such a programme by the prescribed date. Candidates who had passed the GD Arts diploma programme at 10+5 level by the specified date were also eligible.
The CEED 2026 rules did not prescribe an age limit and allowed candidates to appear multiple times. These conditions should be treated as the latest available rules, not yet confirmed CEED 2027 eligibility criteria.
Students should check the 2027 information brochure before applying, particularly if their qualification or final-year status falls close to the eligibility requirements.
What does the CEED syllabus cover?
The latest format consists of two parts. Part A covers areas such as visual and spatial ability, logical reasoning, observation and design sensitivity, while Part B focuses on drawing, creativity, communication and problem identification. This means preparation for CEED should not be limited to practising sketches. Candidates also need to develop visual observation, reasoning, design thinking and the ability to communicate ideas clearly.
CEED 2027 Full Syllabus
Syllabus of Part-A:
- Visualization and spatial ability: Pictorial and diagrammatic questions to test the understanding of transformation and / or manipulation of 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships.

Ability to weigh opinions, arguments or solutions against appropriate criteria. Ability to use logic and structured thinking to deduce from a short passage, which of a number of statements is the most accurate response to a posed question.

Which institutes accept CEED scores?
CEED scores are used for admissions to M.Des and PhD programmes at participating institutes, but the list of institutions can change between admission cycles. The latest official CEED website lists participating institutes including IISc Bengaluru, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Jodhpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Roorkee, IIITDM Jabalpur and IIITDM Kancheepuram for CEED 2026.
The 2026 result-sharing list also included institutions such as Mahindra University, Jain University, GLS University, MIT ID Indore–Avantika University, VIT School of Design, Delhi Technological University, DJ Academy of Design, RV University, Tezpur University and others.
The CEED 2027 participating and result-sharing institute lists should be checked after they are officially released.
What must CEED 2027 aspirants do?
With the examination date already confirmed, aspirants can begin preparation without waiting for the application form. Previous year CEED question papers are available on the official website and include papers from several years. Working through them can help students understand the examination's visual, analytical and design-oriented questions.
CEED Entrance Exam Preparation Tips
The first step to preparing for the CEED 2027 exam is to know that it is a test on visualisation, reasoning, observation, design sensitivity and communication of ideas. Since the exam is on January 17, 2027, students can work on these skills gradually without last minute preparation.
1. Understand the CEED pattern
Begin with the most recent official syllabus and past question papers. The present format consists of two parts: Part A, includes items related to visual and spatial ability, logical reasoning, observation, design sensitivity, drawing and written communication; Part B.
2. Practice drawing but don't stop there
Practise your visual communication skills in Part B by using ideas, composition, perspective and proportion. But CEED is not a drawing based exam. Reasoning, observation and visual understanding are also a requirement for part A.
3. Practice past papers of CEED
One of the best way to get an idea of the type of questions in a previous paper. Once you solve them, rather than just verifying your answers, review your errors. Look out for repetitive issues with reasoning, visualising or time management.
4. Develop observation and design thinking skills
Notice every day shapes, places, symbols, packaging and technology. Ask why and how things are done a certain way, who uses it and how it could be improved. This cultivates the same type of observation and design thinking that will be beneficial for CEED.
5. Make sure to practice Part B with timing
Establish a time limit for drawing and designing questions. Give priority to conveying the concept rather than making a perfectionist's sketch.
6. Take timed practice tests
Take complete practice exams as the test date gets near. Analyze and focus on areas of weakness to improve your performance for the future.
7. Keep preparation consistent
You don't have to spend a lot of time studying each day. It is better to have regular sessions of reasoning than to have intensive sessions from time to time, as well as drawing, visualisation, previous paper and timed test sessions.
The most important thing to do is to visit the official website of IIT Bombay (CEED) and check for the CEED Syllabus and Exam Pattern as soon as the information brochure is released for CEED 2027.
When will the CEED 2027 result be declared?
The CEED 2027 result date has not yet been announced. For reference, the CEED 2026 result was declared on March 4, 2026, and scorecards were made available from March 10. The CEED 2026 scorecard was valid for one year from the date of result declaration.
Candidates should not assume that the same dates will apply to CEED 2027. IIT Bombay will provide the official result schedule with the 2027 examination information.
Does qualifying CEED guarantee admission?
No. A CEED qualification does not automatically secure admission to an M.Des or PhD programme. Candidates must apply separately to the institutes they are interested in and fulfil their respective admission requirements. Individual institutions may conduct additional tests or interviews, and their eligibility and selection criteria can differ. This is particularly important for students planning their applications after the CEED result. A good CEED score is an important part of the process, but it is not the complete admission process.
CEED 2027: What is confirmed so far?
The most important confirmed update is that CEED 2027 will be held on January 17, 2027. IIT Bombay has said that detailed information will be released by October 1, 2026. Until that announcement, students should avoid treating unofficial registration dates, fees, result dates or changes to the exam pattern as final.
For the latest CEED 2027 exam date, registration, eligibility, syllabus, exam pattern and admission updates, candidates should rely primarily on the official IIT Bombay CEED website and the 2027 information brochure when it is released.
