A major initiative to promote STEM collaboration between India and Australia has been marked by the awarding of fellowships to 15 Indian women researchers. These fellowships, conferred by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, in partnership with the Australian Academy of Science, have been designed to provide opportunities for international research and skill enhancement in STEM fields.

Selected researchers will be enabled by these fellowships, which range from 2-6 months in duration, to collaborate with Australian universities and research institutions. Diverse fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) will be addressed through the projects undertaken. Knowledge sharing, expertise development, and engagement in cutting-edge research will be facilitated for the awardees.

A competitive selection process was conducted, with more than 100 applications reviewed from across India. The chosen candidates were selected based on their academic qualifications, research experience, and the strength of their research proposals. The David Donald Fellowship for Data Journalism has been announced by Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE), providing U.S. journalists with a unique opportunity to enhance their data journalism skills. A stipend of $10,000 and a year’s worth of training and mentorship from experienced data journalists will be offered through the fellowship, which is designed to help journalists refine their data analysis and storytelling abilities.

Priority will be given to students with disabilities, those from economically weaker sections, and meritorious candidates, ensuring that the aid reaches the most deserving.

The family’s annual income should not exceed ₹8 lakh, and students must have secured a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in their previous academic qualifications. The scheme also prioritises students belonging to SC, ST, and OBC categories or those with disabilities.
