The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has opened applications for its Digital, AI and Innovation Internship 2026, offering students and recent graduates an opportunity to work remotely on global projects related to artificial intelligence, digital transformation and sustainable development. The fully remote internship programme is designed for young professionals interested in technology-driven solutions for international development and public policy.

According to programme details, the internship will run for three months and selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend ranging between USD 200 and USD 500, depending on the assigned duty station and project requirements. Applications for the programme will remain open until September 30, 2026.

The internship is being seen as a major opportunity for students and fresh graduates seeking international exposure in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, digital governance and innovation management. Interns will work with UNDP’s global teams on projects involving AI applications, communication systems, digital transformation initiatives, knowledge management and technology-led development strategies.

Officials associated with the programme said interns will actively contribute to real-world assignments rather than simply observing organisational processes. Depending on the department and project allocation, participants may conduct research, assist with data analysis, support digital innovation projects, contribute to partnerships and communications, and collaborate on international development initiatives.

The programme reflects the growing importance of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in addressing global development challenges. UNDP has increasingly focused on using technology-driven solutions in areas such as governance, public service delivery, climate resilience, inclusion and sustainable economic development.

Eligibility for the internship includes students enrolled in graduate programmes, candidates in the final year of a bachelor’s degree, and recent graduates. Applicants with academic or practical experience in AI, technology, innovation or international development are expected to receive preference during the selection process.

Candidates are required to submit an updated curriculum vitae, cover letter and online application form. Additional documentation may also be requested depending on the specific project requirements. Applicants have been advised to clearly highlight their interest in digital innovation, relevant technical skills and previous project experience while applying.

Education and career experts note that remote internships with global organisations are becoming increasingly popular among students due to their flexibility and international networking opportunities. The UNDP initiative is expected to attract applicants from diverse academic backgrounds, including technology, communication, policy research and development studies.

Selected interns will gain hands-on experience working in multicultural and interdisciplinary environments while contributing to projects aimed at advancing digital inclusion, innovation and sustainable development worldwide.
