Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior, is delighted to announce a two day hybrid workshop, which will be called Mathematical Legacy of Bharat - Ancient to Modern Period, March 21-22, 2026. This event is organised by the Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems and Department of Engineering Sciences and showcases the mathematical legacy of India, which started with the timeless Vedic foundations and is now being applied in modern applications.

Educational Programme on Ancient and Modern Mathematics.

The workshop follows the mathematical history of the Indian sub-continent in Vedic and post-Vedic work, including geometry of the Sulba Sutras and other advances in arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry and the concept of early calculus by Indian masters such as Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, Bhaskara, and the Kerala School. These historical insights will be filled in by expert sessions that focus on both methodological rigour and historical continuity as well as the global impact of Bharatiya mathematics. The participants will discuss the applications of the indigenous knowledge systems in the present day science, education and interdisciplinary research.
