About the University
The Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET) was established in 1993 with only 14 students for a diploma in marine engineering. In 2007, it gained the coveted recognition of a Deemed to be University-the first in India-for exclusive maritime-related education, training, and research. Nestled on the East Coast Road of Chennai, the 40-acre campus is home to more than 3500+ students from over 10 countries, including around 700+ international cadets studying at AMET from Nigeria and Angola. Being the only Indian institution to be a member of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU), the university comprises 9 faculties including maritime, engineering, management, life sciences, and humanities. Eligibility Criteria
UG Marine/Nautical courses:
- Class 12 passed with 50-60% in PCM, age less than 25 years, and vision 6/6 unaided.
- The B.Tech/BBA program requires 50% in Class 12 (any stream for management).
For PG admissions:
- Relevant bachelor's degree with 50% marks; GATE scores not mandatory but desirable.
- GP Rating: Class 10 with 40% in English, Science, Mathematics.
Every candidate needs to be medically fit which is why color blindness tests are also conducted. NRI/Foreign students need to have an equivalent qualification along with English proficiency. There are also relaxations provided to SC/ST categories.
