When Old Melodies Came Alive: ‘Jazbaat’ Charms Panaji with an Evening of Evergreen Music

Nostalgia took centre stage in Panaji on Sunday evening as Jazbaat – Episode 3 brought together music lovers for a soulful celebration of evergreen Hindi film melodies. Presented by the Ganga Zuari Academy in association with the Rajdeep Group of Companies, the musical evening was held at IMB, Panaji, drawing a lively audience that came together to relive songs that have remained etched in the memories of generations.

The Ganga Zuari Academy, a non-profit, multilingual organisation that has been active for nearly two decades, conceived Jazbaat as an ongoing cultural initiative aimed at bringing people and cultures together through creative expression.

The evening opened with a welcome address by Dr. Mukhopadhyay, former Director of the Mauritius Oceanography Institute. This was followed by an evocative Ganesha Vandana by Rajesh Tarkar, setting a warm and traditional tone for the musical celebration.

Sailesh Shirodkar and Rajesh Tarkar then took the audience on an extended journey through some of Hindi cinema's most enduring melodies, blending old favourites with familiar newer numbers. The spotlight moved between performers as Sagar Naik Bandiwadekar, Siraj Pai Khot, Rupali Thali, Deepa Tarkar, Ashish Gaonkar and Rajesh Tarkar delivered a selection of popular classics.

The choice of songs gave the evening its distinctly nostalgic character. Melodies such as Ek Din Bik Jayega, Madhosh Dil Ki Dhadkan, Kya Hua Tera Wada, Hum Bewafa Hargiz Na They, Sochenge Tumhe Pyar, Pyar Hua Ikrar Hua, Yaad Kiya Dil Ne, Pardesia, Yaad Aa Raha Hai Tera Pyar and Ye Mera Dil Pyaar Ka Deewana took listeners back to different eras of Hindi cinema.

Adding a youthful energy to the programme were young performers Shravya Thali and Armaan Tarkar. Their participation underscored the intergenerational appeal of the event, showing how melodies created decades ago can continue to find an audience among younger listeners.

For many in the audience, the appeal of Jazbaat lay not merely in the songs themselves but in the memories attached to them. Familiar tunes, shared sing-along moments and live performances transformed the evening into a collective celebration of music and nostalgia.

The programme concluded with a closing announcement by Sailesh Shirodkar that Jazbaat – Episode 4 will be held on 29 November at the ICG.

With its mix of familiar voices, timeless Hindi film songs and an enthusiastic audience, Jazbaat – Episode 3 once again demonstrated the enduring ability of music to bridge generations and bring people together.
