Education Minister Steps In to Help Injured NEET Aspirant Appear for Exam Under Medical Supervision

In a remarkable example of determination and institutional support, a National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) aspirant recovering from major surgery and severe injuries was able to appear for the examination after special arrangements were made at her examination centre following the intervention of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Shrishti Dubey, who sustained life-threatening injuries in a road accident on June 14, appeared for the NEET re-examination under close medical supervision at Binodini Girls High School in Dhakuria. The special provisions ensured that the aspiring medical student could pursue her dream despite being in the midst of a challenging recovery process.

According to her family, Shrishti suffered multiple serious injuries in the accident, including nine fractured ribs, significant lung trauma and vascular damage that required major surgery. She was reportedly placed on ventilator support following the operation and only recently began recovering after being extubated.

Determined not to miss one of the most important examinations of her academic journey, Shrishti and her family approached the examination authorities seeking permission to take the test under special medical conditions. Her parents submitted a written request to the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the examination centre, outlining her medical condition and the precautions necessary for her safety.

The family requested that she be accommodated on the ground floor to avoid unnecessary physical strain. They also sought permission for her to wear hospital clothing and retain essential medical attachments, including a chest drain, during the examination. Additionally, they informed authorities that medical personnel from ILS Hospital would be available to monitor her condition throughout the test.

Following the appeal, authorities approved a series of special arrangements. Shrishti was provided with a separate examination room, on-site medical staff, including doctors and paramedics, and a standby ambulance to respond to any emergency situation. These measures enabled her to take the examination in a safe and controlled environment while continuing her recovery.

The intervention by the Union Education Minister played a key role in facilitating the arrangements, highlighting the importance of ensuring that students facing extraordinary circumstances are not deprived of educational opportunities.
